It's the same story everyone has heard again and again.... Watch someone become famous, make a lot of money, blow said money, find themselves no longer famous and broke. It's Hollywood Economics 101. Newest to graduate from that class? Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.
The couple say they "feel like idiots" for blowing through what most people would consider a fortune on things like lavish homes in Malibu, expensive cars, private jets, Heidi's extensive plastic surgury, Spencers outrageously price collection of crystals, and Heidi's attempt at a music career (which reportedly cost the couple over $2 million).
As the couple is considering bankruptcy, Pratt explained the current situation:
"We were immature, worrying too much about the famous part instead of the actual business part," Pratt told Life and Style Magazine. "In hindsight, we shouldn't have spent any of our money. We should have been low-key and saved."
"We thought 'The Hills' was going to be like [the original] '90210' and we'd have another five to 10 years," he explains. "The ratings were consistent. But we never saw 'Jersey Shore' coming. Before, TV audiences were fine with seeing us all argue, but now they want you to punch one another in the face and hook up with three different people. Our cast was a bit boring and snoozeworthy in comparison. No wonder we got canceled."Pratt continued:
"We don't want sympathy, We did this to ourselves and feel like idiots. But we've grown up and are definitely not as naive anymore."
Trust us Spencer, We dont think you guys will have to worry too much about people's overextensions of sympathy.
